Since this was written the 2012 Superbowl ad rate has increased to $3.5M per half minute. And ad rates for the 2013 NFL football Superbowl was $3.8M per commercial for a record total revenue of $240M. 2014 ad rates are $4M per half minute. 2015 ad rates are already being marketed at $4.5M (per 30 seconds) as of 5/14. This is a 50% ad rate increase in the last 4 years.

So the questions is; is there a way to accomplish targeting the same amount of an opt-in captive audience for a fraction of the price?
